Our Story

          As a passionate reader, Mr. M. J. Pratap Singh deeply valued books and was dedicated to preserving Tamil literature. With a passion for reading books, he established Poompuhar Pathippagam in 1975. His profound respect for the Tamil language motivated him to contribute significantly to its enrichment.

          The first book published by Poompuhar Pathippagam was authored by Mr. Muruga Dhanashkodi, a close associate of the esteemed leader Kamaraj. The book was entitled “Kamaraj Oru Sarithiram,” owing to the respect and dignity of Karmaveerar Kamaraj. Notably, this was the first book about Kamaraj published in Tamil Nadu. Following its release, several other books about the leader were published. The book launch ceremony was attended by distinguished personalities, including former Union Minister Thiru Brahmananda Reddy, renowned actor Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, celebrated poet Kannadasan, and eminent writer Mr. Tamilvanan. The book achieved remarkable success, selling several hundred thousand copies and setting a grand record.

          Mr. M. J. Pratap Singh took significant steps to support Mrs. Rani Anna and Thirumati Parimalam in making all of Anna’s books accessible to Tamil readers worldwide through Poompuhar Pathippagam.

          One of Poompuhar’s most popular books is “Thirukkural Puthiya Urai” (Thirukkural New Text), a version of the Thirukkural authored by Mr. Puliyur Kesigan. It has sold several hundred thousand copies, reinforcing its significance in Tamil literature.

          Prominent authors such as Ja.Ra. Sundaresan, Sri Venugopalan, Sujatha, Erode Tamilanban, K.E. Ganesan, former Minister C. Subramaniam, K. Fluid, A. Padmanabhan, Aladi Aruna, Nanjil K. Manokaran, Ka. Kalimuthu, C.P. Citarasu, T.N. Ananthanayaki, Kumari Ananthan, Pavendar Bharathidasan, Mahakavi Bharatiyar, Maraimalai Adigal, Thiru. V. K., and Vallikannan, among others, have published their works through Poompuhar Pathippagam.
