Our Story

          In a noble endeavor, Mr M.J. Pratap Singh started Poompuhar Pathippagam in 1975. He liked reading books and placed great value on books. He greatly regarded the Tamil language and wanted to preserve Tamil Literature.

          The first book published by Poombuhar was written by Muruga Dhanashkodi, who was very close with the great leader Kamaraj. The book was entitled ‘Kamaraj Oru Sarithiram’ owing to the respect and dignity of Karmaveerar Kamaraj. This was the first book published about the leader Kamaraj in Tamil Nadu. After this book, several other books about the leader Kamaraj were published. Former Union Minister Thiru Brahmananda Reddy, famed Actor Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, noble poet Kannadasan, and popular writer Tamilvanan attended the book launch ceremony. It is to be noted that this book sold several lakhs of copies and set a new record.        

          Mr M.J. Pratap Singh took several steps to help Mrs. Rani Anna and Thirumati Parimalam get all of Anna’s books to the Tamils all over the world through Poompuhar Pathippagam. 

          One of Poombuhar’s popular books is ‘ThiruKural New Text’ which is a of ThiruKural written by Mr Puliyur Kesigan. Several hundred thousand copies of it are sold. 

          Ja.Ra. Sundaresan, Sri Venugopalan, Sujatha, Erode Tamilanban, K.E. Ganesan, former minister C. Subramaniam, K. Fluid, A. Padmanabhan, Aladi Aruna, Nanjil K. Manokaran, Ka. Kalimuthu, C.P. Citarasu, T.N. Ananthanayaki, Kumari Ananthan, Pavendar Bharathidasan, Mahakavi Bharatiyar, Maraimalaiadigal, Thiru. V. K., Vallikannan, and other excellent authors have published their books through Poombuhar.

          With quality as its mantra, Poombuhar provides excellent proofreading and typography. With advanced machinery, Poombuhar is very careful about the quality of bookbinding, cover making, design of the cover, and packaging.

          With a legacy of more than 50 years, Poombuhar Pathipagam has published books on over 1300 topics in Tamil, English, and other languages. It continues to search and research many ancient texts, explaining the Dravidian tradition, the culture of Tamils, the antiquity of Tamil, folk literature, and historical events, and published them in red print and contributed to the development of Tamil Literature.
